Salzburg Christmas Markets 2026
Salzburg has six Advent markets, led by the Christkindlmarkt on Dom- and Residenzplatz (19 November 2026 - 1 January 2027) and the Hellbrunner Adventzauber (19 November - 24 December 2026), the best for children. The Mirabellplatz market stays open until New Year's Eve, and the fortress market in Hohensalzburg is open on Advent weekends only. The city centre is best reached by public transport.

For many the most beautiful Advent market in the Salzburg area - lovingly designed, ideal for families, with special specialities. Criticism concerns the entry fee and full weekend afternoons; regulars prefer to go on weekdays.
The best market in Salzburg for children - take the bus rather than the car, and preferably go on a weekday.

- Bus line 25 from Salzburg main station goes directly to Hellbrunn Palace; the car parks fill up quickly at weekends.

For many one of the most beautiful markets of all: generously laid out, with crafts instead of just mulled wine stands and humane prices. Some find the individual markets rather small - but Salzburg in Advent is worthwhile as a whole.
A classic: with the Old Town and the smaller markets, a whole day.

- By public transport or bicycle - there is hardly any parking nearby. In 2025 public transport in the core zone was free on the Advent Saturdays and on Black Friday.

What visitors say
Visitors like the small, cozy and less crowded market with lovely decorations and good gift ideas; the cheese stand is praised. There is clear criticism of the mulled wine (watery to undrinkable) and lukewarm Bosna; exhibitors complain about the organisation, and using the toilet costs one euro.
A nice detour between the cathedral and Getreidegasse for gifts - drink your punch elsewhere.
