Privacy
Short version: no accounts, no cookies, no advertising, no analytics service and no third-party scripts. What you type into our tools stays in your browser. The server keeps ordinary access logs for 14 days, and counts which tools are used without knowing who used them.
Server access logs
Like every web server, ours records each request: IP address, time, the page or file requested, the referring page and your browser’s user agent. We use these logs to keep the site running, find broken links and spot abuse. They stay on the server for 14 days and are then deleted automatically. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)).
Anonymous usage counts
When you use a tool — for example download a card or print a calendar — the page sends a small signal to our own server at /e. It contains only the name of the event (such as “card downloaded”) and the path of the page you are on. It carries no cookie, no identifier and nothing you typed, and these signals are stored without your IP address. They tell us which tools are actually useful; they cannot be linked to you.
What you type stays in your browser
- Letter to Santa, Christmas cards, certificates and printables are made on your device. The text and any photo you add are not uploaded to us.
- Secret Santa: the names and pairs live only in the link you share, after the
#sign. Browsers never send that part of a link to a server, so we never receive it. - Video from Santa: the name and photo stay on your device. The name is checked against a list built into the page. For about fifty common names Santa has a recorded name clip, which your browser loads from our server like any other sound file; the request is for the clip, and we do not log those requests.
- Sharing buttons (for example WhatsApp) only send something when you press them, and then the receiving service’s own privacy policy applies.
- A few games remember their state in your own browser storage (for example the White Elephant game) so a refresh does not lose your place. It never leaves your device.
Cookies and third parties
The site sets no cookies and loads no scripts, fonts, maps or images from other companies, so no consent banner is needed. There is no advertising and no analytics service. If that ever changes, this notice will be updated first and visitors will be asked for consent before anything of that kind loads.
Links to other sites
Pages link to official sources, organizers, shops and postal services. We pass nothing about you to them. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies. Shop links are plain search links with no tracking or affiliate tag.
Children
The subject matter concerns children, but the pages are written for parents. We do not collect data about children: names or photos entered into a tool stay on the device, as described above.
Your rights and contact
Under the GDPR and similar laws you may ask for access to, correction of or deletion of personal data about you, and you may complain to your national data protection authority. Write to admin@merryhoho.com.
If a page shows personal information about you — for example the address of a private home with Christmas lights, or a photo — write to the same address and we will remove it within 48 hours.
