  Mostly Budapest residents come here: nice decorations, an ice rink and more normal prices than in the city centre. Complaints: at some food stalls prices were not displayed and the punch was expensive, and not everywhere pours into the reusable cup.

  A family-friendly, calmer alternative to the city-centre fairs.

  • You can enter the fair from the Laktanya utca, Hídfő utca and Szentlélek tér sides (press release, 2025).

  Worth knowing

  • In 2025 Mon-Thu 14:00-21:00, Fri 14:00-22:00, Sat 10:00-22:00, Sun 10:00-21:00 (press release).
  • The ice rink stayed open until mid-January.
  • The "Szentlélek tér Christmas fair" on Szentlélek Square is the same fair.

  Vörösmarty Classic Xmas

  Budapest's best-known Christmas fair in front of Gerbeaud: more than 100 craft stands, a live Christmas tree, a free mini train for children. The 2026 fair is uncertain: the organising company has been wound up and management of the square returns to the capital in autumn 2026 (Népszava, Aug 2026) - we will only write dates after an official announcement.

  What visitors say

  According to Google reviews of the square, a tasteful, non-tacky fair with lovely lights, good mulled wine and a safe mood; many praise that the mini train is free. Almost everyone thinks it is expensive: in 2023 a goulash soup was HUF 8,500 and a cheese-and-sour-cream lángos HUF 3,900, and several feel prices are set for tourists. The crowd is smaller on weekday evenings.

  The classic city-centre fair, but touristy and expensive - better on a weekday evening, and ask the price before paying. Whether it takes place in 2026 is uncertain.

  • The craftspeople and the mini train are there until 28 Dec, after which the square is prepared for New Year's Eve.
  • Check the price before paying - several customers complained it was not displayed.

  Advent Basilica (Advent Bazilika)

  A Christmas fair in front of St Stephen's Basilica: a 3D light show on the facade every evening from 17:30 every half hour, a 12-metre Christmas tree, a nativity scene at weekends. According to the organizer it has four times been voted Europe's most beautiful Christmas fair.

  What visitors say

  Those writing about the fair on the Basilica's Google page call the light show impressive and the craft offer refined, and several consider it prettier than the fair on Vörösmarty Square. The two most frequent complaints are the crowd - in the evening you can hardly move - and prices: in 2023 three punches and a hot chocolate were about HUF 9,700, and in 2022 at some places prices were displayed only in euros.

  Budapest's most photogenic fair - come after dark for the light show, but be ready for the crowd.

  Budapest Christmas Fair - Városháza Park and Deák Square

  The capital's official Christmas fair and winter experience park: an ice rink with skate hire in Városháza Park, light painting on the Merlin Theatre and the Town Hall, craftspeople and festive food. The fair is open until 10 January, the ice rink until the end of January.

  Buda Castle Advent Fair - Szentháromság tér

  A smaller daytime fair next to Matthias Church in the Castle: local craftspeople, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, every day between 9:00 and 20:00. It quietens down quickly in the evenings.

  A pleasant, family-style fair with kind sellers, tasty food and performers; especially atmospheric in the evening. It is not big - you can walk round it in about ten minutes - and it is already closed on the afternoon of 24 December.

  A good district fair in the 20th district, mainly for families with small children.

  A winter fair and play park for children next to Vajdahunyad Castle: Ferris wheel, carousel, little train, craft stands, hot chocolate and chimney cake. Entry is free, the rides are paid.

  What visitors say

  According to families it is atmospheric, and children get a big thrill from the little train, the carousel and the Ferris wheel; several consider the food overpriced. In 2025-26 several had trouble finding the entrance; on Christmas Day there was no crowd.

  The best Budapest winter outing for families with small children - entry is free, rides are paid.
