Basel Christmas Market 2026
The Basler Weihnachtsmarkt is one of the biggest in Switzerland, on two squares in the old town: Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, with the big Christmas tree in front of the cathedral. It runs from 26 November to 23 December 2026. The Basler Wienachtsdorf at Theaterplatz stays open until 3 January 2027.

What visitors say
For many, one of the most beautiful Christmas markets they have ever visited: cozy, with a lot to see and good food. As everywhere in Switzerland, the mulled wine is rather expensive.
The Swiss classic. With Adväntsgass, the Wienachtsdorf at Theaterplatz and Colmar/Freiburg nearby, it makes a whole Advent trip.

Getting there and parking
- Tram to Barfüsserplatz; from Basel SBB station about 15 minutes on foot. Between the two squares it's 5 minutes uphill.

What visitors say
A place for a convivial evening with good food and drinks, nicely decorated and with a carousel. Those expecting a classic Christmas market find more street food; prices at Swiss levels, and not everywhere takes cards.
