What visitors say
Kolkatans call it a must at Christmas: dazzling lights, a detailed nativity, many food stalls and live music on stage. The flip side is the crowd — at night and around 25 and 31 December it can feel suffocating, and pickpockets work the crowd. On Reddit locals credit it as one of the state's most successful tourism events, while some can't see the point of shuffling through the throng.
India's biggest Christmas street party — unmissable once, best on a weekday evening before the 24th.

Many find it more authentic and less crowded than Park Street: lights against the old red buildings, homemade cakes, momos and home-made wine (around ₹600 a bottle), and non-stop live music. It gets very busy on the evening of the 25th and on New Year's Eve, and some stalls are pricey.
The warmest, most local Christmas in Kolkata — go on Christmas Eve or a day after Christmas for the mood without the crush.
